7digital, the British MP3 download store, has some interesting stats on the race for Christmas number one so far. Joe McElderry, winner of X Factor, isn’t selling the most, at least online. Nope, it’s none other than Rage Against The Machine streaking into the lead!
According to 7digital’s sales figures, Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name is out selling Jordie McElderry’s cover of The Climb by two to one. The band’s sales have been boosted after a Facebook and Twitter campaign took root to stop yet another X Factor winner taking the coveted Crimbo number one spot.
“After several years of X Factor Christmas number one dominance, it’s very exciting to see some genuine excitement and the Internet viral factor that worked so well for Susan Boyle is now turning against the talent show genre,” 7digital’s CEO Ben Drury said.

Of course, 7digital’s web savvy customers may not be the same ones who tune into four hours of Simon Cowell’s centre parting every week, so Joe McElderry could still come out on top once physical sales (and iTunes‘ tally) get totted up. But if you want to stop it from happening, you know where to go to buy Rage’s track.

Yeahh!!
Not a Rage fan, but i will buy anything that stops Cowells X-factor puppet show rubbish topping the charts.
Cowell should be locked up for exploiting the youth of today!
Either way Cowell’s going to make some money. I want Rage to be Xmas number 1 ‘The Climb’ is such a weak song and it looks like RATM are bookies favorite to win check it out here http://bit.ly/5s0RD5 plus there’s a list of sites selling ‘Killing In The Name Of’ and their prices, I think Amazon is the cheapest though.
Already bought mine to stop the X-Factor (the processed cheese of the music industry) taking the #1 slot.
why should cowell be locked up? its YOU the public that vote for these puppets!!!
