BlackBerry wishful thinking, or busted billboard?

Presenting the BlackBerry iPod touch: the fruit of a long collaboration between Apple and RIM to create truly the “funnest iPod ever”. At least, that’s what anyone driving past the IMAX on London’s South Bank will come away thinking from this odd ad overlapping. Which company’s getting the free ride here?

RIM and Apple have both had takeovers of the huge screen cinema complex in London’s Waterloo in recent weeks, for BlackBerry and the iPod touch respectively. But last night it seemed workmen had clocked off early, leaving one advert at half mast while the other was being replaced, resulting in BlackBerry touting the iPod touch in several storey lettering.

We checked out the site yesterday evening, and found it devoid of any activity. The advertising elves behind the work were nowhere to be seen. So which company gets the publicity boost here? It all comes down to which is less likely in your book: a BlackBerry-branded music player with a gigantic multitouch screen and 3D gaming, or an Apple mobile phone with a physical QWERTY keyboard and multitasking?
