Salomon Impact Custom Air

So you and your mates are off for a cheeky boarding trip after Christmas. Well, if you’re still sorting last minute presents, the Salomon Impact Custom Air could be just the ticket. This helmet, aimed at hardcore ‘boarding types, isn’t your average bonce protector. It has a unique air cushion system to stave off nasty knocks. Gimmick? Or a unique new take? Find out in our Salomon Impact Custom Air review.

Finding a helmet that fits and doesn’t cause you an unseemly headache while hurtling down the slopes is nigh on impossible. Hence this clever new effort from Salomon. See, the Salomon Impact Custom Air comes full of air pockets. While that may sound like they’ve filled the lid with balloons to prevent your noggin taking a battering, it’s actually pretty neat.

See, once you get the Salomon Impact Custom Air on, you use a built-in blister pump to feed each pocket with air. The helmet then moulds to your head, giving a surprisingly snug feel which isn’t too tight and uncomfortable.

Obviously this doesn’t come cheap. The Salomon Impact Custom Air costs a hefty £120, so unless you’re going to be flying down the pistes at a fair old lick, you may want to look elsewhere. That said, if you’re a serious snowboarder, you can do far worse than give it a whirl.

That’s not just because it feels secure. It also has some cool add-ons, including decent vents for good temperature control and a removable pair of ear muffs which can be yanked out if you’re indulging in some late season action.

If you’re keen to take snowboarding more seriously in 2010, or have a pal who’s already ollying his way to snowy superstardom, then the Salomon Impact Custom Air is definitely the helmet to go for.
