O2 has just successfully tested working 4G mobile broadband in the UK, notching up a phenomenal 150Mbps download rate in the process. Say goodbye to HSDPA as your must have acronym of choice, it’s time to welcome in LTE. Read on for all the info.
The trial, carried out by Chinese wireless tech company Huawei, with Telefonica O2 UK, saw max download rates hit 150Mbps in the Slough area just west of London, where O2 UK has its headquarters. By comparison, most HSDPA networks have a theoretical limit of 3.6Mbps or 7.2Mbps, but in reality speeds don’t come anywhere near that close.

Huawei is the first of O2′s partners to successfully tested a live LTE network, the 4G technology we may soon be seeing in mobiles. The trial doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing the market flooded with 4G mobile broadband dongles just yet (you’ll have to wait until late 2010 for the rollout to begin), but it’s a promising sign of things to come. HD movie streaming over your mobile, anyone?
