CES, the world’s biggest gadget fair, goes down in Las Vegas next month, but one company that won’t be attending is Apple. That’s not stopped the organiser, the Consumer Electronics Association, launching its own official CES iPhone app though. But wait, where are the Symbian and Windows Mobile versions?
Apple makes a point of skipping CES, even famously overshadowing the 2007 event by announcing the iPhone at Macworld earlier in the same week. But CES is still giving the iPhone a big endorsement by using the platform to launch its own app. There’s no CES app for Windows Mobile, Symbian or webOS, yet Microsoft, Nokia and Palm are all paying to attend. Google meanwhile, the pioneer of Android, doesn’t have a presence at CES, but some of its executives are talking at sessions during the show.
CES 2010 wishlist: gadgets we’re gagging to see in Las Vegas
The CES iPhone app itself is a free affair with a map, schedule and Twitter integration, that works on iPhone or iPod touch, but it’s the platform of choice, and potential snub to some of the biggest companies at the show, that surprises.
You can download the CES iPhone app now for free if you’re interested, but don’t worry: we’ll be on the show floor throughout bringing you all the coverage right here.
