Tesco iPhoneThe iPhone got official on Tesco Mobile last month, but at the time, the supermarket turned telco couldn’t tell us when it would be arriving. But now it’s confirmed, and we’ve got the details on release and price – and the tariffs are a bit more headturning than Orange’s penny undercuts!

The iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will be sold on Tesco Mobile through its website and in supermarket stores from this Monday, 14 December. But the prices are eyebrow raising. It’ll sell the iPhone 3G 8GB on a mere 12 month contract with 300 minutes of calls or 600 texts, letting you upgrade to whatever iPhone comes next in a year. For the privilege, you’ll have to pay £222 up front, but the monthly pound of flesh weights just £20, and it comes with £60 of credit. It’s free on a two year, £60 a month contract with unlimited calls and texts.

The iPhone 3GS 16GB meanwhile will sell for £320 on the same contract, and is again free on 24 months, while the 32GB iPhone 3GS on Tesco Mobile costs £407 on the 12 month, and £50 on a two year contract.

All three iPhone models will also be sold on Tesco Mobile Pay As You Go, for £342, £440 and £538 respectively, with unlimited data – we’re trying to confirm fair usage limits now.

So, as expected, the iPhone isn’t necessarily any cheaper than the other rivals (Tesco Mobile uses O2′s network anyway), but those 12 month contracts will certainly look tempting, especially as a Christmas pressie. You can find the whole tariff chart here: Vodafone, care to show your hand?
