Sony Motion ControlWe’ve seen the Sony Motion Control wand being used as a baseball bat before, but how about as a double ended lightsaber? That’s just one of the ways you could wield it if Sony follows through its plans outlined in this new patent application. Wii, watch out, there’s a new console with an excessive amount of controller add-ons in town.

The recent Sony patent app, called “Expandable Control Device Via Hardware Attachment”, shows the forthcoming PS3 Motion Control wand sporting a variety of different bolts ons, including swappable plates, microphones, rattles, baseball bats, and even fingerprint readers, which could prove handy for automatic PSN login.

By far our favourite design in the PS3 Motion Control application is the ability to lock two wants together, either side by side, or end to end. It’s the latter that’s got us most excited: anyone fancy using it as a weapon in a new beat’em up, or Star Wars game?

This isn’t a sure sign that these ideas will make the cut when PS3 Motion Control arrives in the Spring, but we’re hopeful a few of these make it through the labs and onto shop shelves.
