Google’s revealed Living Stories in Google Labs – a real-time news experiment developed in collaboration with The New York Times and the Washington Post. How will this effect how you’ll get the headlines?
Google calls Living Stories “an experiment in presenting news…designed specifically for the online environment.” Living Stories creates single pages aggregating one publisher’s coverage of a particular news story.
The experimental Google Living Stories homepage currently showcases topics covered by The New York Times and The Washington Post. Current topics include Swine Flu and the continuing war in Afghanistan.
Click through to a specific topic and you’ll be greeted by a Living Stories page displaying a timeline showing key events, a sidebar breaking down topics and a listing of recent articles. The Google Living Stories system also highlights which stories are opinion pieces and which are hard news.
The most interesting thing about Google Living Stories is that it shows Google again working with publishers promote their news stories. It’s in marked contrast to Rupert Murdoch’s recent attacks on the search giant.
