Boxee has come a long way since it was just an off shoot of the unofficial Xbox Media Center project. It’s just taken the wraps off a new beta release and we’ve got all the pics for you to take a look at.

Boxee is a cross platform media center app designed to make watching and navigating content on your TV simple. The interface has been overhauled to make it easier to navigate and the menu is now front and centre so you can quickly find what you want to watch.

You can also easily see recommendations from your friends on Boxee, Twitter, Facebook, tips from Boxee staff or featured content.

The TV Show and Movie Libraries have been overhauled and now include both local and internet content. According to Boxee: “If you know what it is you want to watch, we’ll show you where you can find it and start playing it immediately.”

It’s easier to share what you’re watching with the world, so you can push out messages to other Boxee users, Facebook or Twitter.

Under the hood support for DXVA has been added, which means 1080p video processing can be offloaded to a suitable graphics card and there’s numerous bug fixes, performance tweaks and official support for Snow Leopard and Ubuntu Karmic.

The beta will be opened up to the public on 7 January at CES, but if that’s too far away you can request access by asking Boxee nicely.
