Boxee hasn’t just got a swanky new interface to shout about, it’s also partnered with switch shifter D-Link to make an official Boxee Box and it’s certainly no ordinary design.
Previously if you wanted to bring Boxee into your lounge you needed to give it a dedicated machine to run on or keep switching your laptop in and out. Now you can just plug in the Boxee Box and let it do its thing. It’s a standalone media center that can tap into both your locally stored content and shows and movies available to stream over the internet.
The box looks a bit like a cube that got to close to a sword wielding Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but the design is certainly distinctive.
What powers it under the hood hasn’t been revealed, but it sports holes to plug in HDMI, SPDIF digital audio, two USB ports for expansion and wired Ethernet so it can talk to the web. There’s also 802.11n Wi-Fi too for the cable-phobic and a remote so you don’t need to get up from the sofa.
There’s no word on price just yet, though, and it’s not expected to hit the shops until the first half of 2010.
