Virgin MediaUPDATE: Virgin Media has clarified the areas affected, explaining that since its network isn’t organised by postcode some households might be affected, while others are just fine. In addition, its phone service should be up and running as usual, with only TV and broadband services affected.

Virgin Media has been hit by a series of outages this week, cutting people off from their TV, with those in the Birmingham hit hardest.

Virgin Media customers in the Midlands were hit by a TV outage this week when a Virgin media router failed, taking its services off air for many on Wednesday. Regular service returned yesterday, but those in Birmingham were then hit again on Thursday, when a commercial power outage took down its TV service in the city, according to Virgin Media’s official Twitter feed.

Virgin Media has apologised for for “any inconvenience caused” by the Midlands mishap, but we’ve now also received tips from readers that Virgin Media’s TV and broadband has been out in areas of London for close to a week. Under Virgin Media’s terms and conditions, customers are entitled to compensation after service has been out for 48 hours.

A spokesman for Virgin Media said: “Due to a power outage affecting a part of East London, some customers are currently without their Virgin Media broadband and TV services. EDF and the Highways Agency are trying to rectify the problem, which has occurred in an extremely busy area for traffic in London. Once EDF restores power, our customers will be able to receive their services again. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing.”
