It’s the news all tech obsessed soccerball fans have been waiting to hear: the 2010 World Cup will be available in 3D thanks to Sony and FIFA. Read on for all the deets.
Up to 25 matches in the 2010 South Africa World Cup will be filmed using Sony’s 3D professional cameras, so all the on pitch action will be viewable with added depth on compatible sets.
The global kick about is expected to boost the number of 3D capable sets that go into punters’ homes. Screen Digest has increased its forecasts on the back of the news and now predicts that 13.6m 3D telly boxes will be installed by 2013.
3D will also be available to punters that haven’t shelled out for a shiny new set. FIFA will be hosting Fan Fests in seven cities across the world (Berlin, London, Mexico City, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Rome and Sydney) where footy fans can catch all the action on Sony screens.
Sony also plans to put together the Official 3D Film on Blu-ray after the final whistle.
