The PSP Go might not have a slot for standard PSP games, but Logitech is rumoured to be working on an add-on drive for the handheld console, letting it play hard copy UMD games as well as grabbing downloads.
There are no specific details at present and, as yet, no official confirmation from either Sony or Logitech. However, a source told CVG that Logitech is indeed working on the device for PSP Go consoles.
Logitech helped to fuel the rumours by refusing to deny the reports, instead stating: “We’re not aware of it, so it may be something the US office is working on.” Come on guys, either something is up with your company’s internal communication or you’re not being entirely truthful.
Chances are, if CVG’s source is accurate, the add-on would plug into the PSP Go’s memory stick slot on the left-hand side, making the console much more desirable to anyone with an existing collection of UMD games.
The PSP Go hasn’t enjoyed the best reception since its October launch. Many critics bemoaned the lack of backwards capability and the original asking price, a hefty £225. In our review, we recommended sticking with the older version for more flexibility. If Logitech can deliver the goods, we might reconsider that.
