NokiaNokia’s new look UI for its Symbian smartphones is a great improvement on what we have now but if you did a double take checking out the gallery, no you weren’t imagining things. That really is an edge-to-edge capacitive multitouch tablet with a Nokia logo on. Is this the Espoo HD2?

Nokia’s new look UI for Symbian, revealed at its Capital Market Day this week, was shown in a slideshow running on a Nokia device we’ve never seen before, with a gorgeous screen. Nokia confirmed that the new Symbian would run on capacitive multitouch devices during the presentation and that looks an awful lot like one to us.

Nokia did badge each slide with a disclaimer, stressing this was a concept device, but it’s a clear indication of where Nokia sees its smartphones headed. And the HTC HD2 has already proved this form factor is more than possible. The only question is, if Nokia is switching out Symbian for Maemo on Nseries phones what’s this going to be branded as?
