IKEA iPhone app: No self assembly required

An IKEA iPhone app was as inevitable as the superstore car park being rammed on a Sunday and that flatpacked wardrobe taking forever to put together. It’s just hit the iPhone App Store and we’ve got the video of it in action right here.

We’ve just about forgiven IKEA for the slap in the face that was its mystery car anti-climax earlier this year and now it’s back with an IKEA iPhone app of its very own. It’s just scans of the IKEA 2010 catalogue at the moment that you can pinch to zoom in and out of (and only in landscape mode) but it’s free and works well enough. IKEA says it’s part of its plan to reduce paper use in its heaving catalogues/tomes and while not every cardboard bed purchaser owns an iPhone, it’s a start.

IKEA Leko concept revealed as car pooling scheme

The Swedes say they intend to add extra features to the IKEA iPhone app over time and are asking for user feedback. We think so far there aren’t enough virtual versions of tense couples in their mid 30s arguing about a new coffee table while their children suffer in the ball pool to give it that authentic IKEA experience feel.

The IKEA iPhone app is available on the iPhone App Store now for iPhone and iPod touch.
