Google has launched a brand new homepage design that strips out all the on screen clutter that’s crept in over the past few years and features just its logo, search box and buttons. Mouse around, however, and the extra elements will fade back in gradually before your very eyes.
Additional links – for things like Gmail, Image search and Google account options – have been slowly creeping in around the edges of the once clean Google homepage. The new design aims to eliminate them for users that simply want to search but still keep them to hand for those that use them.
Google, being Google, has tested ten different fade versions and the one that’s now on show tested best among its human guinea pigs.
Interestingly, if you’re a super l33t user and have used the magic Javascript code to enable the redesigned Google search, you won’t see the new fade in screen at all. It is obviously far too simple for advanced searchers.
