Portable DAB radios have never blown our socks off. If we’re honest, they’ve failed miserably in the past, despite our deep-seated love for digital radio. So what makes the Clarity DAB Cube different? It works. That’s what. Read our full Clarity DAB Cube review to find out more.
The DAB Cube is tiny. Compared to other pocket DAB radios, it’s absolutely miniscule. Measuring around half the size of a matchbox, but twice as thick, it’s a little chunk of black plastic which you’d be forgiven for doubting at first. But don’t.
Slap the included headphones into the side, fire it up after charging it from a PC or Mac USB socket and it’ll leap into life. There’s no waiting for it to tune into stations, they’re just there. Click left or right to change the station, or up and down to tweak the volume.

It’s surprisingly loud, and while the included headphones are tacky and leak sound like a sonic sieve we were cockahoop to find the Clarity DAB Cube will work just fine with any others, delivering reception just as well, using the headphone cable as an antenna.
Hold down the radio’s centre key, dive into its menus and the Clarity DAB Cube is no slouch either. You can set stations as your favourites, perform a full re-scan or tune manually. Information on what’s playing scrolls across the tiny display by default, and the orange backlight is surprisingly bright.
Despite having low expectations for the Clarity DAB Cube, it blew us away. It’s restored our faith in portable DAB, despite its exceptionally reasonable pricetag. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to rinse the DAB Cube’s four hour battery life some more.
