Nokia’s E series has long been the go to brand for Finnish phone fans, easily seeing off the N series with both its epic battery life and slimline looks. But is the latest effort the QWERTY packing Nokia E72, worth an upgrade? Or even one to plump for over the stunning new BlackBerry Bold 9700? Read our complete Nokia E72 review now and we’ll tell all.
While the Nokia N900 has got touchscreen fiends in a fluster, it’s the Nokia E72 that’s undoubtedly Espoo’s go-to gadget of 2009. It’s not short on top draw specs, with HSDPA, a 5 megapixel camera, a 2.36-inch screen, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.
But it’s when you stop drooling over the spec sheet and start rummaging around on the Nokia E72 that it really comes into its own. The email service is nothing short of stunning and one we have a personal preference for over the ace BlackBerry Bold 9700. Setting up mailboxes is ace and the layout keeps things nice and tidy.

Sending messages is a delight too on the Nokia E72. The QWERTY keyboard is every bit as good as the one found on the BlackBerry. It’s extremely responsive and its rubber styling means your digits won’t slip and catch other keys when your bashing out emails, tweets and texts at a rate of knots.
The general build of the Nokia E72 is also cracking. It’s super slim at just 10.1mm, but maintains the classic long Nokia business style that City boys will be all too aware of. That’s no criticism, as it fits snugly either in your jeans pocket or the one in your suit jacket.
The 5 megapixel camera is every bit as good as any we’ve tried on similar Nokias, with the Nokia E72 churning out some truly great pics, as long as the light is just right. Likewise GPS and Nokia Maps are up there with the efforts on the best N-series phones. If we’re honest, we can’t see why you’d bother going for an N-series over this. It has everything you could want from a smartphone, in a slick package.
