The Creative Zii Trinity phone, on paper, sounds like an iPhone killer alright. Just announced today, it packs in a 3.1-inch OLED multitouch display, five megapixel camera, and support for 1080p video playback on a big screen. There’s just one catch: is anyone going to make this phone?
You see, the Creative Zii Trinity Android phone is a reference model, like the Zii Egg Android iPod touch rival before it. That means it’s up to phone manufacturers to strike a deal and start making it themselves – and we don’t expect too many big names to get in on this, especially when the likes of LG and Samsung make their own displays.
Creative Zii Egg: The Android iPod touch
The Creative Zii Trinity phone uses a new ZillLabs StemCell processor to give it the extra graphical oomph to output full HD video, while some current NVIDIA Tegra gadgets (The Zune HD) top out at a lower res 720p, and you can see just what it’s capable of in the video below.
We’d love to see the Creative Zii Trinity phone make it to market, and fingers crossed some newcomers will use it to make a dent, but since production hasn’t started on it yet, it’ll be months before we see any commercial offerings based on it. And by then, we could have a new iPhone – and a true Google phone. Chop chop, ZiiLabs.
