Stephen Fry has deleted his details from social network/global address book Plaxo after his contact info went a bit too social. Naturally, he let everyone know this via his Twitter account.
Fry deleted his account last Friday stating on Twitter: “I’ve got the hell out of Plaxo which was distributing my details to every casual passerby. Grrrrr.”
Any logged in users could apparently not only see Fry’s mobile phone number but also what appeared to be his home address.
In a virtual game of he said, she said, Plaxo marketing head denied sharing Fry’s details without his consent telling the Guardian: “There has definitely not been a breach of the security of our service. As best I can tell, all that’s happened is that one user (albeit, a rather prominent one!) was surprised to find that the sharing settings he’d previously applied to some of his personal info were more public than he’d intended.”
Hitting back, Fry told the paper: “My settings haven’t been changed since I was first on it. So v odd that I should get two emails telling me I was compromised… No plans to return.”
Fry also threatened to quit Twitter last month, after a user accused him of being boring – although he later decided to stay after all.
