Microsoft console-blocking iPlayer from the Xbox 360 hasn’t stopped the BBC’s catch up service clocking up record views in October. The replay TV facility had its best ever month since launch.
In total, the service racked up a massive 79.3 million requests in October – which is 2.6 million per day. That headline figure accounts for both TV and radio, with the online gogglebox taking up 53.2 million request and the remaining 26.1 million going to radio.
PC viewers are the biggest users of the service, accounting for 85 percent of all requests. iPhone and iPod touch users are rising up the ranks, accounting for seven percent of requests, and PS3 is also on the increase being the preferred option for six percent of catch up watchers.
BNP leader Nick Griffin’s controversial appearance on Question Time on 22 October pushed it to the top of the most requested episodes for a series, with 928,000 people tuning in digitally. The first episode of natural history programme Life came next, with 664,000 requests.
