Nintendo has been lacking on singing games for the Wii that are not for teenage girls, so can We Sing from Nordic Games deliver a long awaited addition to the musical game genre? Read our full We Sing review to find out.
There are 30 full master songs – no naff muzak or pan-pipe versions here – from the 60s to the present day, all high-charting hits that are known in our pop psyches. We Sing should cater for all your mates, and we’re sure there are a couple of well-loved hits your Gran and Grandad could join-in with too.
From the title, We Sing might suggest it is best played with at least more than one person or with a group of mates at the pub on karaoke night, but the ability to sing solo lets you get some practice in before belting out Delilah or Don’t Cha. It’s like singing in the shower but less slippy. However, there is no specific practice part in the game where you can try breathing technique or harmonising, as you can in Disney Sing It: Pop Hits, but as you’re not a little girl wanting dreaming of being Hannah Montana that won’t matter much to you.

As you sing the words it indicates whether you are on key and holding the notes for the right amount of time, so you don’t just sing the songs once and that’s it, you want to improve your score and reach that perfect 9999. You can have sing-offs in Versus mode or First to 5000 mode. And that’s where having at least two microphones is worth it. We Sing lets you duet with a friend on certain songs, but it’s up to you to decide who will be Elton John or Kiki Dee, Charles or Eddie, The Pussycat Dolls or Busta Rhymes. The terrifying options are endless.
While Nordic Games have created a good benchmark singing game with We Sing, we can see similar future releases using the Wii motion sensor technology to let you throw in some dance moves and pull some shapes. This feature is present in Boogie Superstar by Electronic Arts, although it had mostly obscure, unknown songs that had to be performed to unlock more paltry tracks. It did not make for a fun party game like We Sing does, with every song being one you know. Well worth a punt this Christmas.
