Remember the ICD Vega Android tablet? We’ve just stumbled across one in the wild, but with an unfortunate handicap: it’s running Windows CE instead of Android!
We love us a good tablet prototype, and the Vega Android tablet was one of the slickest we’ve seen in a while, from ICD, packing a powerful NVIDIA Tegra punch. We spied one on show at an NVIDIA showcase today, but tragically, it was running Windows CE. The 15-inch slate is incredibly snappy, rifling through menus in a flash and firing up a 720p video on the double. But that OS is so ugly it hurts, and it cries out for the more colourful touch of Google’s mobile platform.
On the back of the Vega, there’s a magnetic charging contact which attaches to a conical stand, making it more like a massive, powerful digital photo frame, and while it’s clearly lacking the ports of a finished product, it’s shaping up to be a tasty addition to any tabletop.
15 inch Vega Android tablet incoming!
Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed release date just yet for the Vega tablet, but if we all close our eyes and tap our shoes three times, ICD and NVIDIA will answer our prayers and release it, complete with Android instead of Windows CE. In the meantime, expect more details to be announced at CES in January.
