iriver-storyAnother week, another e-reader hits the shops. This time it’s the iRiver Story taking on the Sony Reader and Amazon Kindle. Read on to see if it has what it takes to battle the giants.

The iRiver Story has a similar look to the Amazon Kindle: it’s white (or slightly off-white) and fairly unadorned, with a 6-inch 800 x 600 e-ink screen and, unlike most e-readers, a QWERTY keyboard. That means you can edit documents, take notes and fill in a diary and scheduler.

There’s also audio compatibility, letting you play back MP3s (via a headphone output or built-in speaker) as well as record voice memos.

The iRiver Story is compatible with EPUB, PDF and TXT files, and can also display Word, PowerPoint and Excel files alongside JPEGs, BMP and GIF images (in 8-shade greyscale). There’s 2GB of built-in flash memory, plus an SD/SDHC card slot that lets you add up to 32GB more storage space.

Out now | £229 | Available at Advanced MP3 Players and Zavvi
