The Asus G51J 3D laptop is coming to fix your extra dimensional gaming thirst, and while it’s not out until early next year, we’ve just had a hands-on sesh with it. Read on for the piccies!
The 15.6″ Asus G51J 3D is the Taiwanese company’s first 3D laptop effort, and even without the added depth perception, it’s a well specced notebook: it’s running on an Intel Core i7 processor and 4GB of RAM, with a 500GB hard drive.

But 3D the G51J 3D laptop does, and it does it admirably. The 1,366×768 display throws up pictures at 120Hz, so even when beaming images for your left and right eyes, it’s an apparent smooth 60Hz, meaning a wide viewing angle. We played Batman: Arkham Asylum on it, and it worked well – exactly like a modern 3D film in fact. That does still mean the same dark issues and slight lack of clarity, but the Asus G51J 3D impressed us more than we expected a first gen bit of tech too. Asus told us it will ship with a pair of 3D specs that require a 40 minute charge via micro USB for 40 hours of playback.
The Asus G51J 3D laptop is out in January, with price still MIA, but get a good gawp at it in action here.

I also think 3D has a future in televised sport – on a big screen, the depth perception on a football pitch really is quite impressive. Now if only something could be done about the goggles…
