A magazine app store selling digital versions of all your favourite titles is nearing fruition, according to a new report. Sources claim that some of the world’s biggest publishers are just weeks away from unveiling a one stop eShop to download big name mags on any smartphone – or the Apple tablet.
According to The New York Observer, an executive president at magazine powerhouse Time Inc, John Squires, is spearheading an alliance of publishers including Conde Nast and Hearst to create this digital magazine app store.
Apple Tablet: magazine makers show they’re ready
Issues sold through it will be available across “multiple digital platforms, whether the iPhone, the BlackBerry or countless other digital devices”, which could well mean the Apple tablet, given that Conde Nast title Wired is already priming its mag for the as yet unofficial device.
Although the deal hasn’t been set in stone, sources say that the announcement could be revealed in just weeks if all goes to plan, though what format magazines would be sold in remains to be seen – we’d love to see something slightly more polished than PressReader on a big screen device like the Apple tablet is alleged to be. We’ll let you know as soon as anything concrete on this print revolution gets out.

If Apple’s Tablet ever comes to fruition it will want to see digital print media sold through iTunes and not through a third party website.
It’s very true. But then I certainly wouldn’t rule out the possibility that this new organisation and Apple have already had words. I’m intrigued.
