TwitterTwitter‘s been edging around the subject for years, but now the micro blogging sensations’s CEO says that it’ll begin to charge for select services this year.

Speaking to the BBC, Twitter founder Biz Stone replied when asked about a business model, “We’re going to be entering into that this year and there’s several ways that were looking at making money.”

Primarily, he said Twitter will offer commercial services (“a special layer of access”) to help companies tweeting to understand how the service is working for them, providing analytics, statistics and feedback.

Stone also mentioned the “licensing possibilities in all of our open content”, hinting at how Twitter could pull in cash by opening its stream of 140 character declarations up for others to use – something Google and Bing are already taking advantage of.

Stone stressed that Twitter “will always be free” for users, so don’t worry about getting forced out by fees ever, but if you’re at the helm of a business, Twitter could be about to become a whole lot more helpful within weeks.
