Endemol, makers of Big Brother among other reality TV delights, is hard at work on a Twitter application. The production company’s community manager, Jonathan Almond, revealed the project during the Twitter-focused 140conf conference in London.
Endemol’s Twitter application, provisionally titled Tweemote, is intended to capitalise on the current fashion for tweeting along with TV shows.
With Tweemote, Endemol will give viewers access to the TV schedule and allow them to select a programme that they want to tweet about.
All the tweets users then send with Endemol’s Tweemote will have a hashtag added to allow everyone using the app to watch the stream of babble about that programme.
That’s good news for reality TV lovers but also for folk who dislike X-Factor, Big Brother and, horror of horrors, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
If everyone cluttering up your Twitter stream, tweeting about a particular programme is using the same hashtag, it’s super-simple to exclude their tweets using Tweetdeck.
Endemol hasn’t announced when it will introduce the Tweemote Twitter app but expect to see it before Big Brother lumbers onto our screens one more.
