UK Radioplayer is the name of the universal iPlayer for British radio stations, the BBC revealed today. It’s headed to PCs early next year, but that’s not all – you’ll eventually be able to use it on mobiles too.
Initially, UK Radioplayer will let you stream more than 400 UK stations, through a pop up via your PC browser (No word on Mac support just yet). You’ll be able to set quick presets, view additional content such as links to buy songs, track info, adverts or even the weather. We’re even promised a powerful new search engine that will let you rifle through stations to find genres of music or even specific songs.

That’s not all though. The BBC says the UK Radioplayer will eventually appear on smartphones and web connected IPTVs too. Of course, many phones have an FM radio built in, but this would allow for show catch-up, as well as a smart interface for all the track and stationed entails you could need. Fancy a Spotify app for radio? This could be it.
Unfortunately, the BBC hasn’t revealed what UK Radioplayer will look like just yet, but we’ll be sure to bring you a first look as soon as.
