BenQ is a bit late to the e-reader party with its first monochrome offering, the nReader, but it’s looking to make up the ground fast, promising a colour e-reader sequel for next year.
BenQ’s nReader e-reader comes with a 6-inch touchscreen EPD display, no keyboard, 3G wireless access, 2GB of storage on board plus a microSD slot, and can play back MP3s too. BenQ also plans to launch a book store for the device, which will go on sale in Taiwan, Japan and China early next year.

So far, so Kindle, but BenQ also let slip that a colour version of the e-reader will be out in the second half of 2010 too. It’ll need that to compete in a world where e-readers now come with Android powered touchscreens on the bottom, but with prices steadily coming down, we’re hopeful it’ll be able to pull it off at a lower price than what it’s charging for the first BenQ nReader: NT$8,990 (£170).
Of course, BenQ has been rumoured to be dabbling in Android before, so who knows, maybe it’ll come packing some Google action too. We’ll let you know, but expect a tasty sequel to the Cool-er before then.
