Freeview HD, the high rezzy solution for free HDTV without the dish, will begin ramping up next year, with 50 percent of the UK ready to watch the World Cup in June through the service, the BBC has confirmed. Want to know who gets it, when? We’ve got the answers for you here.
Freeview HD will be made available to folks in London, Glasgo, Newcastle, Leeds, bradford and Birmingham by the end of March next year. Most viewers will be able to get their Freeview HD on as the digital switchover arrives, so those in Manchester should be able to get it next month, and Cardiff residents in March, with half the country’s population covered by June. 98.5 percent will be covered by the end of the switchover in 3 years’ time.
BBC Freeview HD anti-piracy plans cause backlash
Worried you might fall into that 1.5 percent minority? You’ll be able to check when you get Freeview HD with postcode search on the Freeview website from January next year.
Of course, wherever you live, you’ll likely still need the Freeview HD receivers, which Auntie says will be available from early on next year, to tune in, so most Mancunians will have to wait until then.
