Want the inside info on GTA V? Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, has been talking games controversies and dropping hints about his plans for the next Grand Theft Auto, as well as panning Modern Warfare 2′s critics for good measure. Read on, for the full skinny on Grand Theft Auto V.
While Rockstar Games is hard at work on Red Dead Redemption, the sequel to its Western game Red Dead Revolver, its already thinking about the sequel to GTA IV.
Dan Houser says the environment will come first; “We’ll think of a city first, then the characters.” He’ll co-write the script again and, in keeping with the sprawling nature of GTA IV, expects it will run to around 1,000 pages.
Modern Warfare 2 banned in Russia!
Houser has also explained his inspiration for the Grand Theft Auto series: “It evolved out of our love of watching live car chases on TV. Grand Theft Auto is set in a world that is like the world would be if it were the way the media says it is.”
The Rockstar Games guru also attacked video game critics and the controversy around Modern Warfare 2. Houser says: “Video games are a popular and easy enemy. It’s all part and parcel of doing something that’s not been done before.”
He raised the case of Rockstar’s own most controversial title, Manhunt 2. “That was not a good situation,” he admits. “But Manhunt 2 was banned in the same week Saw was released. The arguments become quite ludicrous quite quickly when people argue that games are somehow more dangerous than full-motion video.”
While you’re waiting for Houser to put pen to paper and get GTA V finished, find out whether GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony is worth limbering up your thumbs for with our comprehensive review.
