The Google Chrome browser for Mac OS X might be due in December, but the Big G still has plenty of surprises before then: whispers on the web suggest Google’s first operating system, Google Chrome OS could launch within a week…
Google Chrome OS was announced in July and Google previously suggested it would not be available until Spring 2010. But it seems it may have sped up the release schedule.
If Google Chrome OS does launch in the next week or so, it’s likely that it’ll be in a beta stage, with support for drivers on the shaky side. That’s sure to be a problem if you’re rocking a lot of peripherals, or installing it on anything but the most basic netbook.
However, Google has said it is working with Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba to place its OS on new devices. It’s likely that Google Chrome OS will pop up first on netbooks like the Asus Eee PC but could eventually come to desktops and more powerful laptops too.
Take a peek at what Google Chrome OS might look like with these leaked screenshots.
