Not got a 3D TV? Can’t dig out the cash for Sky 3D? No matter. Channel 4 3D week kicks off today and all you need is a free pair of silly specs to see everything from The Queen to, er, JLS bursting out of your box in three dimensions. We’re so excited, we’ve even given the Electricpig logo the 3D treatment.

Simple. Drop what you’re doing right now and get yourself down to your local Sainsbury’s, where they’re giving away the special specs for the sum total of zero pence.
Do I need a 3D TV to watch Channel 4 3D week shows?
Certainly not. As long as you can get Channel 4 you can get stuck into 3D week. You don’t need any special equipment, however word is that those with analogue signals won’t get as good a 3D picture as those rocking digital TV.
How does it work?
Channel 4 3D works using the ColorCode 3-D system. It means the pics you’ll see without your glasses clamped to your noggin will have a yellow and blue hue and don’t require a special 3D TV to be broadcast. Stick your specs on though and you’ll get better colour perception than with those old school red and green specs usually used for 3D.

How can I make sure it looks perfect?
Make sure you sit well back from the telly. ColourCode 3-D doesn’t work so well when you’re sitting in front of your box like a 5-year-old in gleeful anticipation. Channel 4 says you should sit at least one and a half metres away from the screen.
So, any specific instructions on setting up my TV for Channel 4 3D week?
You can say that again. Channel 4 says that you’ll need to make sure your front room’s as dark as possible and that your TV is in 16:9 to get the most out of Channel 4 3D week. On top of that, make sure your boobtube is in ‘Cinema’ picture mode in order to get the most neutral view.
What’s worth watching?
While we have nothing against Miley Cyrus and JLS in glorious 3D, both broadcast this coming Sunday, we’ve got other pressing engagements. Like tonight’s Derren Brown Presents the 3D Magic Spectacular at 10pm and Friday the 13th Part III in 3D on Friday at 10pm.
