Samsung badaThe other day we told you that one of Samsung’s top exec’s had said it will drop Symbian next year in favour of its own open-source OS, Samsung bada. Now Samsung’s saying that was just not true.

Samsung says its still really good friends with the Symbian Foundation: “Samsung is an initial member of Symbian Foundation and continues to cooperate with Symbian Foundation. At the same time, Samsung supports various existing open operating systems including Symbian, Linux, Android and Windows Mobile.”

Rather than ditching any OS, Samsung says it will attempt to please everyone with a “multi-OS strategy”. Its spokesman said the firm wants to “provide more choices to meet consumers many different tastes and preferences.” Oh Samsung, that’s so sweet of you.

However, it’s worth looking at Samsung’s words closely – it simply says it’s continuing to support Symbian. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be busting a gut to develop new Symbian handsets. It’s not making it’s own OS, bada, just for the sake of it. Want to know more about Samsung bada? Try our all-you-need-to-know guide.
