LG SL9000 LED TV: hands-on photos!

What you’re looking at here is the edge to edge LG SL9000 LED TV, in the flesh. LG gave word of this scorching flatscreen a few months back, but it’s just hit the UK, so we’ve gone hands and eyes-on with it. Read on for the gallery.

LG is still pushing on with OLED, but coming into fill the cavernous price gap between it and regular LCD is the new LG SL9000 TV. It works by using LED technology for backlighting, and the upshot is that pictures are deeper and crisper. We compared it eye to eye with nearby, older LG LCD and plasma panels, and it was noticeably better at handling the documentary and movie video on show.

The LG SL9000 TV is also far less power hungry, and shockingly thin. It’s under 3cm thick, although unfortunately the four HDMI slots and other cables on the back aren’t all sideloading, so wall mounting the LG SL9000 TV may require some serious masonry skills. Add to that the edge to edge glass panel though, and you’re left with a beautiful gogglebox if you have enough TV stand space.

LG is touting LED as the next big thing and we can see why: at around £1,100 for the 42-inch and £1,500 for the bigger 47″, it’s substantially cheaper than OLED – which has yet to go beyond 15-inches. You can buy the LG SL9000 TV now, but take a peep at it in action first in our hands-on gallery here!
