TomTom iPhone appThe TomTom iPhone app is about to get a big update, throwing a few neat new new features into the boot including better advanced lane guidance and iPod integration. Want to know what else? Keep reading and see!

The new TomTom iPhone app upgrade will bring advanced lane guidance as seen on most (but not all) of the company’s dedicated satnavs, in both portrait and landscape mode, as well as text-to-speech for reading out street names, a current map and speed camera database, and iPod controls to get round the iPhone’s pesky lack of multitasking.

That’s assuming Apple is all fine and dandy with it, as the TomTom iPhone app upgrade still needs App Store approval before rolling out, though we can’t see any obvious difficulties. Is it enough to stave off the competition though? The CoPilot Live iPhone app just added in-app iPod controls too, and it’s less than half the price of the TomTom iPhone app.

Still, TomTom’s promised this won’t be the last update to the TomTom iPhone app, so you can count on more goodies to come too – expect this update imminently.
