The Ricoh GXR, just announced today, is a radical rethink of just how a camera should be built. By shoving the sensor inside the lens kit, Ricoh’s allowed for a camera body that stays up to date every time a new lens/sensor clip-on comes out, but that’s not all. With the Ricoh GXR, you can add attach other bolt ons too, and Ricoh’s just unveiled a few prototypes of what those might be!
Sure, the Ricoh GXR comes with plenty of different lens types to whack on the end. But why stop there? Ricoh’s shown off some other crucial additions that could sit on the end, such as a GPS unit, wireless transmitter, printer, storage unit and best of all, even a projector, so you could beam back what you’ve just taken on a nearby wall. Think along the lines of the Nikon S1000PJ projector compact we tried out in the Summer, but with enough space to fit some more serious tech inside.
Unfortunately, there are no solid plans to release these concept add-ons for the Ricoh GXR just yet, but it’s good to see Ricoh’s at least looking into it. We’ll let you know if and when this flatpack camera kit gets official, and in the meantime, be sure to check out our hands-on photos of the Ricoh GXR in our gallery!
