O2 iPhoneWith just hours to go before Orange gets the green light to sell the iPhone, O2 has hit back with an intriguing offering to keep Apple fans on its network. We’ve long railed against its eye watering tethering prices, but now a new tethering bolt on will get you home broadband too, completely free.

Called iPhone Total Connectivity, the new O2 bolt on allows current iPhone subscribers to tether their handset for mobile broadband access on a laptop, and receive O2 home broadband for absolutely nothing. Pick up the now £9.79 3GB per month tethering bolt on before 31 December and you’ll get the O2 Home Broadband standard package included.

iPhone tariffs: how the extras stack up

If you’ve got an O2 iPhone and broadband from the network already, you’ll be able to get a £7.34 discount per month instead too. It’s a surprise move from the network, and one clearly aimed at keeping iPhone owners from defecting to Orange, which begins selling the iPhone 3G and 3GS tomorrow.

Not interested in tethering your iPhone? Already got home broadband? See how the tariffs stack up here in our breakdown.
