Last time we heard anything from Moto, it was dabbling in eInk Android e-readers, long before the Nook and Alex came along, and now it’s back with a brand new take on Android 2.0. The first design in its Android Media Platform range is a 5-inch tablet packed with some stonking specs, and an OLED screen!
If the 5-inch Android Media Platform makes it to market, it could give the Archos 5 and the forthcoming Dell slate a serious headache: as well as that gorgeous capacitive multitouch screen, there’s Wi-Fi, 3G, an SD card slot, eight megapixel camera, and the ability to play 720p video.
Android 2.0 explained on video
That’s not all Moto has planned for the platform mind, with a 3.5-inch model that looks curiously like an iPhone in development, as well as a 10.4-inch number which will supposedly feature the same OLED tech, plus the same bells and whistles along with GPS. If it manages it, we could have a serious rival to the Apple tablet on our hands, but given the extortionate price of larger OLED panels right now, we’re not backing it just yet.
Moto says its 5-inch Android 2.0 tablet is available for companies to make use of now – it doesn’t sell straight to shoppers, alas. We’ve dropped it a line for some in the flesh footage as it teased folks with the Android e-reader, so we’ll be sure to update if it comes through with the goods.
