Play is convinced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with its Eminem soundtrack and controversial levels, will be the biggest selling entertainment product ever. With that in mind, it’s not trusting the strike ridden Royal Mail with delivering the precious games. Read on to find out about its plan…
Play says Modern Warfare 2 will break the sales record set by Grand Theft Auto IV and may even leapfrog films like Mamma Mia and The Dark Knight. At a peak, Play was receiving pre-orders at a rate of over 150 a minute.
However, with strikes promised today and Monday, Play has turned to couriers instead of Royal Mail to ensure Modern Warfare 2 arrives in time for launch day – Tuesday, November 10.
Play is guaranteeing that customers who order Modern Warfare 2 by midnight on Sunday will receive it the game on the day of release.
Play’s COO Stuart Rowe says: “This unique event is made more complex with the planned industrial action by the Royal Mail. To avoid any disappointment we are using a courier to get Modern Warfare 2 to each of our customers on the release date.”
It’s a smart move by Play. Should more retailers ditch the Royal Mail for being unreliable? If industrial action continues to dog deliveries, we’re sure to see couriers carry our games and gadgets more and more.

My Game order apparently dispatched by courier yesterday. No sign of it as yet but I won’t be too upset to get my copy before the weekend
I have mine in my hand, sent from Tesco via Royal Mail. They cancelled the strike action you know
