Unboxed: BlackBerry Bold 9700

Here it is. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has just hopped off a plane from Germany and straight into our awaiting hands. Is the 3G infused push email powerhouse everything we hoped for? Find out as it gets prised from its box in our gallery right here!

Yanking it from its carton, we’re just as smitten with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 as we were in our first hands-on. The build really feels like pinnacle of the portrait form, QWERTY keyboard design, thanks to a solid keypad, sharp 2.4-inch screen and a snugly fitting leather case on the back. We still can’t get over the size reduction from the original Bold too: it feels much more like a BlackBerry Curve 8900 in the design, but there are faster download speeds over 3G shoved in too.

There’s no doubt the tweaks RIM has made to the BlackBerry OS in version 5.0 make things more fluid. Message conversations are laid out better, you can glide through photos with the new optical trackpad, and almost every application and feature oozes class. The only exception? The browser’s still no iPhone Safari (could we get some tabs here please?), but at least there’s 3G to keep pageloading ticking over reasonably.
