Stephen FryIt may seem like the whole Stephen Fry Twitter controversy was about 100 years ago in Internet time. However, a newly released video (recorded before the hooha) reveals that it could have been avoided if he’d just listened to his own Twitter advice…

In an interview with T3.com recorded a few weeks ago, Stephen Fry offered the following advice:

“Stop before you tweet, is of course the wisest thing. I’ve tweeted things and immediately wished to un-tweet them. You can do that of course, but because of all the followers, if only 2% have seen it that’s still thousands of people. They’ve then retweeted it and it’s out there, so I try not to be too hasty.”

It seems that wasn’t foremost in his mind when he declared he was thinking of quitting Twitter, after criticism of his tweets ( Twitter user @brumplum called them “boring”).

Fry has since returned to Twitter but not before his threat to quit made the front page of newspapers and caused a phenomenal Twitter storm. If only he’d listened to his own sage advice.
