With the amount of delays the Eee Keyboard multimedia PC has suffered, it’s starting to look like the Duke Nukem Forever of tech, but now it seems there’s been good cause for the hold up. Asus wasn’t just dallying to get Windows 7 on board: it’s shoved in a new touchscreen too, with multitouch support!
The Register is on the ground at Asus HQ in Taiwan, and had a sneak peek at an updated Eee Keyboard model. Just as we told you last month, the Eee Keyboard has been postponed until early next year, but there’ve been some changes under the bonnet in the meantime.
Eee Keyboard delayed until 2010
As well as a new look silver on silver finish (unlike the black model seen here at CES 2009 in January), the new Eee Keyboard sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen, instead of resistive. That means much better response when prodding through all your video and photo folders, but also multitouch gesture support: swiping two fingers over the screen will launch a web browser.
The new metallic case on the Eee Keyboard does lead to a trade off though: you’ll need to plug an external Wi-Fi antenna in, or opt for a non-metal version which Asus says is also on the way.
The changes to the Eee Keyboard seem to be for the better, but we hope the company can get them out soon, or the vapourware rubber stamps will have to start coming out. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
