Adobe has taken its fight with Apple over iPhone Flash support directly to the phone’s users with a new message on their download pages. Read on to find out why Apple’s Steve Jobs will be fuming…
Apple bosses have been unconvinced about the effectiveness of Flash on mobiles, hence no support on the iPhone. But it seems Adobe is becoming seriously frustrated with this stance.
As we reported last month, the iPhone is the only smartphone left without Flash support. Now Adobe is letting users know that the omission is not its fault.
Point your iPhone or iPod Touch at get.adobe.com/flashplayer and you’ll get this rather passive aggressive message:
“Flash Player not available for your device. Apple restricts use of technologies required by products like Flash Player. Until Apple eliminates these restrictions, Adobe cannot provide Flash Player for the iPhone or iPod.”
Will this approach help Adobe to persuade Steve Jobs to change his mind or will it just make him even more stubborn? Sadly, we think it could well be the second.

I’m usually the first to bemoan Apple’s walled garden approach, but I can almost see why it’s focusing on HTTP streaming for video instead of Flash. Still, I’d also like to be able to have all bases covered. Chop chop Cupertino!
Apple use to be about something other than profit, that was many many years ago. Now they go against everything they stood for in the early days thats why I have avoided all apple products like the plague, that and the fact that for 8/10 products they have, there are actual better choices out there.
Really Sam? 8 out of 10 products out there are better than Apple’s.
I’d say 12/10 mice that aren’t made by Apple are better than its efforts. Not sure that’s true of much else it makes though.

My opinion is Adobe’s words are unprofessional and counterproductive. In addition, although I would like the option to view flash, on the web sites that I usually frequent it is used for advertising…so I am not missing much. Of course, that is only my opinion.
Ah, but 4oD Catch-up! That’d be lovely.
Most of the interesting discussion on this took place last month, when that message first appeared. Adobe.com gets three million visits a month from iPhone users seeking a Player download. But until Safari supports plugins, and until Apple approves its installation, there’s no way to help them.
The blogosphere echo-chamber today is pretty fierce on such old news… your post is pretty moderate in comparison, thanks!
