Marvel is bringing its vast catalogue of superheroes to the iPhone. The massive Disney-owned publisher has teamed up with iPhone app developers Panelfly to offer its back catalogue.
Marvel is one of the biggest comic book publishers in the world with a roster of characters including Spiderman, the X-Men and Ironman. All those titles will be offered via the free Panelfly iPhone application, stretching back to their first issues.
The Panelfly iPhone app is free but each comic costs $0.99 to download through the app. It’s currently only available in the US but Marvel and Panelfly have plans to bring the service to the UK.
Marvel’s move to bring its catalogue to the iPhone also follows speculation that the Apple Tablet will be a platform for publishers like the New York Times and various publishers of graphic novels. Is it to much of a stretch to imagine Marvel may be digitising its back catalogue of content for the proposed launch of the Apple Tablet aka the Apple Slate?
