RIM has hit back at claims that the major BlackBerry Storm update won’t be out until 2010. Could BlackBerry OS 5.0 roll out in time for Christmas?
Research In Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry line of push emailers, has got in touch with us to say that the BlackBerry Storm OS 5.0 update, which brings improved typing and browsing among other features, will be rolled out “for existing BlackBerry Storm users by the end of the year.”
BlackBerry Storm: no UK update until 2010
RIM’s statement is in direct contrast to our well-placed source, who told us earlier in the week that the major software upgrade would likely be delayed until 2010, despite US BlackBerry Storm users getting it this week.
It’s in no one’s interest for the BlackBerry Storm update to be held back of course, so it looks like RIM’s eager to make amends as quickly as possible for original Storm owners in the UK, left without a shiny new Storm 2 or a new OS to match it. We’ll keep you posted, and let you know as soon as RIM and Vodafone greenlight it for Storm users in Blighty.
