Microsoft already hard at work on Windows 8

Windows-Logo-Windows 7 is a roaring success in terms of sales (even if that pesky “endless reboot” question is causing headaches for Microsoft) but it seems the firm is already looking to the future. Job postings for roles related to the OS’s follow-up, Windows 8, are already popping up online. What do the vacancies tell us about the future of Windows? Read on to find out…

A job posting from October 8, 2009 asks for a Senior Program Manager and reveals the first mention of Windows 8. A second vacancy refers to Windows Live and seems to suggest that Windows Live Mail will be further integrated into Windows 7 and Window 8.

The vacancy also reveals the number of users currently rocking Windows Live Mail – a fairly stonking 40m which Microsoft can add to the 500m Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger users. Two futher job postings ask for software engineers.

It’s good to see that Microsoft is already looking to the future but let’s hope that it keeps it eye on the ball with the current OS and irons out the remaining niggles.
