The Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS is a truly stunning camera. As well as being able to slip into all but the smallest of pockets, it packs in enough tech to give your holiday snaps that added sheen, without you having to lug about a DSLR. The 28mm wide-nagle lens is ideal for big landscape shots while the 2.7 inch screen is more than ample for giving your work the once over.
It’s in automatic mode that the Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS really shines. If you’re a camera novice or can’t be faffed tinkering, it’s great. Push the shutter half way and it’ll do a massive 11 million calculations to give you ther perfect picture.

Not only will the Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS take care of the usual issues like red-eye reduction and face detection, but work out the motion of both the person in shot and the person taking it. The result is clear images which we found rarely, if ever, disappointed. And that applied as much when taking fast moving outdoor shots as it did when snapping portraits of the kids.
12 megapixels is more than enough to be getting on with and chuck in 720p movies and you’re looking at a winner. The Face Self-Timer feature, which only lets the camera go off once someone’s mug is in the frame, is a touch of class too.
There are a couple of minor niggles: performance could be slightly quicker, while the lack of zoom in movie mode is a right pain. Still, for the price, looks and skills, the Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS is perfect for travelling or just taking out when that DSLR feels like too much of a burden.
