n97-miniThe Nokia N97 Mini is up for grabs, SIM-free, now. The pared down version of Nokia’s flagship phone is setting a new trend for basic smartphones, with the likes of the HTC Tattoo and Sony Ericsson Kurara hopping onto its small and slender bandwagon.

The Nokia N97 Mini had been due to start doing its thing from 23 October. But no matter, you can lay your mitts on one now, sans contract, for £429. For that you get a 3.2-inch touchscreen, HSDPA, Wi–Fi and a slide out QWERTY board.

Obviously it’s a tad smaller than the original N97, although that’s no bad thing. The N97 Mini has 8GB of on board storage instead of 32GB, and there’s no d-pad for zipping around menus.

The N97 Mini faces stiff competition, but if you’re an S60 nut but don’t want a specced up powerhouse, then it’s the phone for you.
